If you’re afraid of the dark then this is not the race for you!
After miserable weather and a great turnout for the first race of the season, we are looking forward to race #2. The second downhill race of the season will take place on July 11th at Memorial Park and will consist of one run during the day and one night run.
All of the expert features on the night run will be lit, but the rest of the trail will not be. Therefore, each rider will be required to have a personal light on either themselves or their bike.
Registration: 4:00pm First run: 7:00pm Second run: 9:30pm
This is the night before the MNSCS race at Memorial Park and we do have a permit to camp so come up and check it out whether you are racing or not.
Due to time contsraints there is a 60 rider limit, so make sure to pre-register or get there early if you want a guaranteed spot in Minnesota’s first DH night race!

Sweet t-shirts man!!
Jolly Roger t-shirts are back by popular demand. This year’s colors are red, royal blue, black, and all shirts sport the MFC logo on the back. Shirts are $15 each or 2 for $30…what a deal! They will be available at all Red Wing trail building sessions and Jolly Roger races, if that’s not convenient enough and you’ve just gotta have your fix quick, get a hold of me and we’ll find a way to get one to you before you get the shakes.
All proceeds will go to the benefit of area trails and events.

Another great day of trail-building went down today in Red Wing, MN. The new ending was buffed and we closed off the clear right line in the rock garden which should make that section a little more challenging come race day. But the most fun thing we build today in my opinion was a new jump in upper section. It is located after the first switchback, before the rock garden, between the two jumps. We also added a new step-up landing to the first jump in that section.
I’m really excited about this new addition. If you hit the first step-up clean the whole thing flows really well. Don’t worry if you’ll not quite up for attempting the gap yet, the whole thing is safely rollable.
Thanks to Josh, Matt, Nate, Nick, Thor and Tony for all the hard work today. Thanks to Tim for helping us test it out.

The first Grill ‘n Chill of the summer went down at the Red Wing DH course on Saturday. Reports are sketchy as to whether or not any grilling actually went down, but my sources tell me that there was copious amounts of chilling. There were also reports of trail building taking place in the area, but at this time we have no pictures to confirm that.
What we do have are some awesome photos by Ben Berndt.

So far 2009 has been a good year for Steve Peat. First a new baby and now a the record for most World Cup DH wins.
Check out the highlights from the usual suspects below.

The dates and formats are official, pre-registration is live, and we’ve got some great sponsors on lock-down! Wheelhouse Cycles, Shockspital, and Kali Protectives have all committed to helping this series become the best that it can be. We also have pre-registration this year, and each race that you pre-register for enters you in an end of the year raffle for bad-ass giveaways! This isn’t your mom’s website so I’ll say bad-ass anytime I feel like it…BAD-ASS!!
This race series was created by riders for riders and continues to focus on hosting exciting races in lieu of exciting elevation. This year’s races included a best of 2 runs race with an additional chainless run, a night race, a king of the mountain style race, and a race held on 2 different trails - single run on each, best combined time wins.

Round 2 of the UCI DH World Cup takes place in La Bresse, France on Sunday. Qualifying took place today and last I heard Steve Peat was in first place with most of the fast guys already down. As always Freecaster.com has live coverage.
Based on the footage I saw of practice, the course looks pretty raw. The weather has been wet and looks to stay wet. Should make for some interesting racing.
