Corie Berrigan, the race director of the 24 hours of Afton, has added a Super-D to the race weekend this year. She asked me to help put the course together and I definitely added enough DH flavor to keep the fast XC guys on their toes. Try and make it out if you can. It should be a fun time and it might mean the start of something bigger for us at Afton.

The course has been designed and assembled by a group of both XC and DH riders to be an equalizer. There are several jumps and other technical features which will yield a time penalty by the nature of course routing if avoided. On the flipside, it is a super-d and there is a few up hill spots that will give big bikes a run for their money. If you’re trying to decide which bike to run, aim for something that does it all pretty well and avoids excelling in just one area.

As someone who has raced a good deal of both XC and DH, I am excited to say that I have no idea who is going to win this race. It’ll either be a XC style that can send it over the big stuff or a DH style that can pedal hard when it matters. Either way, it’s gonna be a party!
