Check it, saw this posted up from Shawn! Looks like he’s lookin’ for a couple riders to step in and help him out! Let us know if you can help out

Hi Guys,
So here’s the deal… The city of Maple Plain has 1000 yards of clay from the old BMX track, and a new location on Budd Ave. – right next to the water tower – where they would like to build.
I’ve convinced them to abandon the idea of building another BMX track, but rather to build a dirt park. The plan I submitted to them looks a lot like the jumps at Eagan, 3 rows of progressively larger jumps and a pump track. There would be two berms on each end of the 3 tracks.
I met with the City administrator last week to go over the required drainage – I suggested collection at two points on each of the two infield sections, the drainage would run from south to north and drain into a ditch running along the border of the park.
So here’s what they really need, someone to head-up the effort to build and a small group of dedicated people to maintain (the City Council needs to know they have public help on an ongoing basis before they’ll authorized the contstruction. They would like to get the drainage put in, then start hauling the huge pile of dirt from the old location to the new spot).
I’m not able to help this time around, I’m just starting a new biz – and I have very little free time for something like this. I will be there to keep the politics moving and give guidance, but that’s about all I can do.
So, if you live out in the west ‘burbs and you like to ride the dirt – here’s you’re opportunity. I told Jason (@MP) that I’d get the word out and try to round-up a crew.
Let me know if you’re serious.
* Background :: My Father and I were the main promoters/builders of the original BMX racing track in Maple Plain, I have been helping to maintain it for the last 20 years. The track was tore down to install a water treatment facility, and the dirt from the track piled-up behind the city maintanance building for later use. The City of Maple Plain is fully in support of continuing a BMX facility, but they want to know they have someone to maintain it in the long-term.

The summer is flying by and the 3rd Jolly roger of the year is only a week away!
Here’s the lowdown:
Jolly Roger #3 will be a King of the Mountain race. This is a completely different format then the other Jolly Roger races. It will be double elimination and should keep people riding all afternoon. Register in your regular class and race against everyone. At the end of the day only one rider will emerge as King of the Mountain!

Tom “Mach 1″ Miller carved his way into the record books last Saturday as the overall winner of Jolly Roger Race #2, the Midwest’s first night time DH race. There was a good turnout of riders and spectators as the sun went down and the generators came to life. Work lights were installed to illuminate 5 of the trail’s main features, drops/gaps; and the riders found their way down the rest of the dark course with the help of personal bike lights.
The women’s field had a full podium once again, and we are right on the cusp of having enough Juniors to warrant their own race category.
I don’t want to rub it in…Actually, I do want to rub it in a little. If you missed this race, you missed one of the most unique and Sweet mountain biking events in Minnesota since the “Red Bull Ride the Sky”. At the end of the night, it left everyone on a bike asking, “When is the next one?!”
Those of you who were out there taking photos are encouraged to post them here or send them our way via e-mail.
Thanks to everyone who came out and made this event worth all the effort! Results along with current series points will be available at www.jollyrogerdh.com later this week. With two more races left this year, it’s anybody’s game!

Last weekend in Grinders Bike Shop put on a their Annual Dirt Jam. Delayed a day by rain the event still looks to have been fun, and the set up looked great this year! Props to the build crew!

If you’re afraid of the dark then this is not the race for you!
After miserable weather and a great turnout for the first race of the season, we are looking forward to race #2. The second downhill race of the season will take place on July 11th at Memorial Park and will consist of one run during the day and one night run.
All of the expert features on the night run will be lit, but the rest of the trail will not be. Therefore, each rider will be required to have a personal light on either themselves or their bike.
Registration: 4:00pm First run: 7:00pm Second run: 9:30pm
This is the night before the MNSCS race at Memorial Park and we do have a permit to camp so come up and check it out whether you are racing or not.
Due to time contsraints there is a 60 rider limit, so make sure to pre-register or get there early if you want a guaranteed spot in Minnesota’s first DH night race!

Sweet t-shirts man!!
Jolly Roger t-shirts are back by popular demand. This year’s colors are red, royal blue, black, and all shirts sport the MFC logo on the back. Shirts are $15 each or 2 for $30…what a deal! They will be available at all Red Wing trail building sessions and Jolly Roger races, if that’s not convenient enough and you’ve just gotta have your fix quick, get a hold of me and we’ll find a way to get one to you before you get the shakes.
All proceeds will go to the benefit of area trails and events.

Another great day of trail-building went down today in Red Wing, MN. The new ending was buffed and we closed off the clear right line in the rock garden which should make that section a little more challenging come race day. But the most fun thing we build today in my opinion was a new jump in upper section. It is located after the first switchback, before the rock garden, between the two jumps. We also added a new step-up landing to the first jump in that section.
I’m really excited about this new addition. If you hit the first step-up clean the whole thing flows really well. Don’t worry if you’ll not quite up for attempting the gap yet, the whole thing is safely rollable.
Thanks to Josh, Matt, Nate, Nick, Thor and Tony for all the hard work today. Thanks to Tim for helping us test it out.

The first Grill ‘n Chill of the summer went down at the Red Wing DH course on Saturday. Reports are sketchy as to whether or not any grilling actually went down, but my sources tell me that there was copious amounts of chilling. There were also reports of trail building taking place in the area, but at this time we have no pictures to confirm that.
What we do have are some awesome photos by Ben Berndt.
