Giant’s Ridge DH Trail Done! Race coming soon!

Posted By email hidden; JavaScript is required  §  Aug 16th, 2010

Check it out guys, rolled up to Giant’s Ridge with a crew from MFC yesterday to check out the new DH trail they’ve built! Incredibly fun trail. Take Red Wing flip it on its head, add about 8 billion rocks, a fine dose of roots, then toss in some loamy dirt for good measure. Makes for a about 2:15 second run top to bottom at a pretty good clip! (Thor speed)

We’ll be hosting a race up there the weekend of Sept 10-12th. So come on up and check it out! More details on that coming in the next day or so.

Top to bottom video of Giant’s Ridge DH trail!

Talk about it!

Maple Plain Dirt Jump Park

We plan to finish the pump track this Sunday. Volunteers are needed to help put in the last of the pump rollers and pack in the remaining berms. Shovels and iron rakes are the best tools for the job, so bring some if you can, otherwise we have tools on site that you can use. Also, bring bikes so you can ride what you build and check out the rest of the dirt jumps!

A 3rd Jolly Roger Race, Sept. 11th!

Posted By email hidden; JavaScript is required  §  Jul 22nd, 2010

In conjunction with the owner of the Lodge at Giants Ridge and with the support of Hoigaards, we are pleased to announce the addition of a third Jolly Roger Race for the this season!

As many of you already know, we have been building a new trail at Giants Ridge in Biwabik, MN. We have been making great progress and I can’t convey how excited I am about this trail. Between the elevation and natural terrain, this will be one of the best DH trails in the Midwest.

The race will be held on Saturday September 11th.

Registration and Pre-riding will begin at 8am, the race will begin at noon.

Currently, we are planning to shuttle riders the entire day. In addition, there will be discounted rooms available at the lodge for our riders on Saturday night, and potentially a shuttle available on Sunday if you wanna hang out and ride the trail for an extra day. I will deliver the specifics as soon as possible.

There is so much access to recreational activities in that area: biking, boating, hiking, golfing, ATVing, Swimming (AKA Cliff Jumping), Fishing…the list goes on and on. I encourage you to spend the weekend and check out the area.

More Race Details

Talk about how stoked you are to race on the hottest new DH trail in MN…pfft, more like the entire world!

New DH Trail at Giants Ridge!

Giants Ridge

After a couple months of planning with the State of Minnesota and the owner of the The Lodge at Giants Ridge we are excited to announce that MFC will be building a new downhill trail at Giants Ridge.

This is a huge opportunity to expand the quality and quantity of downhill trails offered in Minnesota. The trail will be on State land and will be open to the public at no charge. Initially, it will not be lift access but there may be several days of shuttle riding yet this year.

Trail planning and preparation has already begun, and there will be a major build effort on the weekend of July 17th and 18th. We are looking for volunteers to join us for this weekend. Our goal is to build a course in time to add a final destination to the Jolly Roger Series on September 11th, and we need your help. If you are available that weekend and interested in volunteering please contact me via e-mail, t.benusa@mfcmtb.com.

Pictures and more info to follow!

2010 Jolly Roger Race #1 Recap

2010JollyRogerRace1-59

The weather threaten to turn the first race of the 2010 Jolly Roger DH series into a mudfest much like last year, but the rain held off until the awards ceremony. The weather kept some away but those that showed up were treated some of the best conditions I’ve seen on the Red Wing course. The dirt was so tacky that even the flat corners felt like they were bermed.

More of my photos from the race can be seen here.

Post your stories and photos from the race here.

Maple Plain Dirt Park almost done!

Posted By email hidden; JavaScript is required  §  Jun 7th, 2010

Pulled this from one of Shad’s posts! Great work Shad and crew! We’ll do our best to keep people posted but for the most up-date stuff check out http://f-bom.blogspot.com

Almost done!

From Shad:
This is what we got done so far. We had a major delay (about 8 hours) due to a long midday rainfall on Saturday. It was so bad that the skid steer could not even drive Sunday morning……it took until about noon before we were able to fully get use of the skid steer. We did have a big Cat front end loader to move dirt around, so that helped. We stuck it out until 9pm this evening and the image above is the near finished product. We were not able to get the pump track in, that will go in next weekend if the weather cooperates.

More updates as this project progresses on the f-bom blog.

If you want to go check it out and ride it……have at it.

Thanks to Behind-Bars Bike Shop, Twin Six, and Red Bull for their swag and support of the volunteers.
