Posted By email hidden; JavaScript is required  §  Apr 16th, 2010

Of course you’re all going to be busy competing in the 1st race of the 2010 Jolly Roger DH Series on June 6th, but if you’re looking for something to do on the Friday before or the Sunday after, Shad Holland will be holding a build session for the Maple Plain dirt jumps.

According to Shad:

“The build dates are June 4th, 5th, and 6th. The project was supposed to get done late last fall, but delays caused us to have to put it off until 2010. So this is it, it’s all been approved by the city and is ready to go and the dates are set!

Most of the updates for this project will be happening in the f-bom blog at http://f-bom.blogspot.com.”

Middleton Bike Park Marching Orders

Posted By email hidden; JavaScript is required  §  Apr 1st, 2010

Hi guys!

Great news!!!!

They’ve started grading the site for the Middleton Bike Park! They are bringing in pro builder Ben Blitch to help get it all rolling!

Pulled this off the madcitydirt.org website!

“Just got off the phone with Ben Blitch who is going to be the contractor working in Middleton. He wanted to describe what he envisioned happening at Middleton. Needless to say we have a fair amount of work to get done before he arrives.

1. He will send schematics for the pump track based on dimensions that are provided to him

2. He would prefer to have a roughed in pump track in place when he shows up

3. He would like to groom and adjust pump track as necessary to ensure it is acceptable to Middleton

4. He would like 5-10 people to show up each weeknight after work to help until dark.

5. He also plans to rough in the jump/flow line and help teach our locals how to properly construct this element.”

So get stoked guys! I’m gonna try to roll up from Chicago for a couple days to help out!l!

Thanks!
Buck

Nordic Mountain DH is back this year. The race takes place June 19th & 20th. Racers will be able to put down one timed run on Saturday and one timed run on Sunday. The lifts will be running so you should be able to put in plenty of practice runs.

More info including entry fees and race times can be found at the Subaru Cup website.

Sounds like there might be an MFC contingent at the race this year. Will you be there?

2010 Biker-X at Buck Hill

Posted By email hidden; JavaScript is required  §  Mar 10th, 2010

Last weekend saw the first running of the Biker-X race at Buck Hill hosted by the Midwest Freeride Community. It was a beautiful day to be out on the hill. While the warm temperatures were welcome after a long winter, it made for a soft course. But that just meant that no one got hurt when the inevitable carnage that follows sending four riders hurtling down a steep course happened. The riders navigated ten foot berms and rollers, all the while trying to keep it between the gates — and oh yeah, everything was made of snow — soft, slushy snow.

The Results

We even made the local news. Maybe next year we can tell them it’s pronounced Biker-Cross and not Biker-EX.

I myself shot a bunch of video, which I’m working on editing. Given my usual video timelines you should look for that sometime in the next 6 months.

Photos

We had almost as many photographers as riders at this race, which was great because they got some excellent shots.

Thanks to Shockspital, Buck Hill, ODI, Kali Protectives and Spank for sponsoring the race.

Thanks to all the riders and spectators who came out to support gravity racing.

Thanks to Larry Martin for manning the starting gate, Kos for manning the finish line and Richzilla for helping Tony makes sense of double elimination brackets with four riders per round. Also thanks to Josh Sweet, Nick Ice and the dude in the blue t-shirt whose name I don’t know for keeping the last two jumps groomed throughout the race.

And finally thanks to Buck Hill for allowing us to run a race there and for all their work in getting the course ready. Special thanks to Jason the snow cat operator who let Tony and I ride along and give input on the course construction.

BullRun Moto 2.0, Feb 21st

Posted By email hidden; JavaScript is required  §  Feb 18th, 2010

Richzilla will once again be putting on the BullRun Moto during the 2010 PugFest at Hillside Park this Sunday, Feb. 21st.

From Richzilla:

“Here’s the lowdown on the showdown. We are once again having the FREE moto event before the XC gig. This time it will be much earlier though, so that anyone who is racing both will have a bit of time to recover before the start of the XC race. The first heats will begin at 11:00am sharp, so don’t lolligag in the morning. We plan to be done with the Finals by 11:30 so you can change gear or pedals or whatever if you need to, before the XC start. There is only one class, OPEN. No entry fee. Primo prize for the fastest wheels. The race will be run like a 4x race. Four riders start each heat from random draw for lane choice. Top two riders advance to the next round. Run as many heats as necessary until we get to the final round of 4 riders. This will be a fast paced event with back-to-back rounds. No rest for the wicked. Save some for the final…”

Ray’s MTB Park in Milwaukee?

Posted By email hidden; JavaScript is required  §  Feb 17th, 2010

According to Cody York on ESPN’s BMX blog another Ray’s MTB Park is in the works for Milwaukee WI.

From the blog:

“Also in even bigger news about Ray’s, today they are signing the papers for a massive Home Depot sized warehouse and opening another Ray’s MTB Park in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The projected plans we heard about the place sound like it’s going to blow the Ray’s in Cleveland out of the water. I’ll let you know more details as I’m allowed to release them. Till then, start making plans to make a trip to Cleveland and ride Ray’s this summer.”

I’ve never made it out to Cleveland to sample what the MTB Park has too offer but the photos and videos I’ve seen of the place look awesome. If this report comes true and you can bet I’ll be making several trips to Milwaukee next winter.
